The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy must submit an application for nomination through their congressional office in the spring of their junior year of high school, or the fall of their senior year in high school.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

To be considered for a Service Academy Nomination from our office, please email TX04AcademyNoms@mail.house.gov for an application request form. Our application deadline for the high school class of 2025 is October 11th, 2024. Interested students may email for an application request form to begin the application process.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can contact our office for an application request form?

Starting in the Spring semester of a student’s junior year of high school, students are eligible to request an application.

No. This is a completely student led process, and we ask that the student facilitate the application process entirely by themselves.

Does a nomination guarantee an appointment?

No. A nomination is required to be considered for an appointment, but it is the decision of each Academy which students are selected for appointments.

Do you have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply for a nomination?

Yes. Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:

1.        A U.S. Citizen

2.        At least 17 years of age, but not yet 23 years of age

3.        Unmarried

4.        Not pregnant, and void of any child support obligations
